66-year-old male with chest pain
A sixty-six-year-old male came for treatment. He had chest pain that had lasted for several months, it had gradually worsened from exertion. By the time of his initial consultation, the pain was severe. His cardiologist diagnosed him with blockage of an artery and recommended surgery. I agreed to treat him homeopathically, but I required that he follow his cardiologist’s advice and remain under his care.
His symptoms indicated Arsenicum album. Because I considered his state as an acute condition, I gave him one dose of 10M; the following day, I gave another dose, this time of 50M.
After five days, he returned to my office and said, “I no longer have any chest pain.” Again, I advised him to see his cardiologist.
After three days he called me. “I’ve started running, and I have no pain at all,” he said. “I would like to see you.” I refused to see him until he followed up with his cardiologist and underwent any diagnostic test he ordered. He went to the Mayo Clinic and underwent the required tests, which showed that his artery was no longer blocked. The cardiologist no longer recommended surgery or medication.
Although Arsenicum album is not a specific remedy for arterial blockage or heart conditions, but, as J. T. Kent eloquently wrote:
“The aim of the physician, first, last, and always must be to find the remedy which most closely corresponds to the patient and prescribe for the patient, whatever manifestation that patient may suffer when the prescription is selected.”
